CountyCare Member Story

CountyCare Helps Young Widow And Her Family
Stephanie* is a recently widowed 28-year-old CountyCare member. As a mom with three young children, she was struggling with significant emotional and financial strains while navigating a language barrier.
Although Stephanie did not initially have a dedicated care coordinator, she contacted her deceased husband’s care coordinator for assistance. The CountyCare care coordinator stepped in and provided support to Stephanie and her kids. From contacting the Social Security Administration (SSA) to learn how she can obtain survivor benefits to connecting with Immigrant Community Services to explain her situation to help her find employment, the care coordinator’s main focus was to guide Stephanie in getting her immediate needs met.
Stephanie is now gainfully employed (with childcare secured with the help of her care coordinator as well) and receives SSA survivor benefits. She is extremely thankful for all the help she received from CountyCare and the other local organizations during her time of need.
